Blazers embarass themselves in the Rose Garden - April 30, 2001
I met up with Darrell for our first and only playoff game this year. With low expectations of the team, we watched as the Blazers embarassed themselves again on national television. The local media is pounding the airwaves incessantly trying to speculate on what will happen next. Most would like the team broken up and sold for a younger generation as Pippen, Smith, Sabonis are looking pretty old. Sabonis will probably retire, and chances are Pippen/Smith will be back as their contracts and the NBA's salary restrictions will probably prevent them from moving those guys.
Coach Dunleavy's job is probably in jeopardy, which is too bad because lacking effort on the floor is not really his fault.
I'd like to see them build the team around Wallace, Wells, and Stoudamire. But Wallace is a mental midget, Wells will be recovering from majore knee surgery, and Stoudamire is fragile mentally and very hot and cold. I think I'd rather see consistently average play than 25 pts one night and 3 the next.
Anyway, the fact is that the team needs to have some major changes done, and next year come playoff time I hope we slip in and at least put forth a good effort.
Sunday Afternoon at the Ballpark - April 23, 2001
Drove up for Sunday's game at Safeco Field in Seattle with Darrell. We got there pretty early and were able to get free parking. We then spent a couple of hours at the Pyramid Ale House across the street. It was cool, in the low 50's at game time with the threat of rain so the roof was closed for the game. The beat Anaheim 5-0 as Aaron Sele pithed a gem.
After the game we met up with Steve "Shaq" Halushak and Darrell's brother Doug back at the Pyramid Ale House. We had a little dinner and hung out with some of the locals before heading home.
AC/DC in the House - April 20, 2001
I went to the AC/DC concert last night. They did all the "standards". It was pretty fun. It didn't sound all that great though. I'm not sure if it was the building, where we were sitting, or the earplugs. EARPLUGS? Yes, I did use the plugs for about 90% of the concert. I took them out every once in awhile when I wanted to feel the noise. But I figured that keeping my hearing in tact was probably more important. I did feel some ringing in the ear afterwards, but was fine the next morning. I suppose had I not had them in the next day would have been different.
Crowd was very interesting. Two generations of hard rockers, and the years have not been kind to most. We sat at dinner pre-concert with what we think was a mother and son rockers - both were not pretty.
The band was fun to watch, especially Angus the guitar player. He is probably approaching 50 years old, and is the most active rocker I think I've ever seen. It is really apparent who "fronts" that band even though Bon is the lead singer - it's Angus's band. The other guitar and bass player merely stand in the background with the drummer and do their thing. Bon sings and struts around with Angus bouncing from stage right to left. There were a few firepots, but the cool stage thing was a 30foot tall statue of Angus, with guitar around the neck, one arm in the air and standing on one foot. The cool thing was that at various points in the show it would rotate and blow CO2 through his nose with glowing eyes.
They also had a 30ft tall blowup doll dancing around during the "Whole lotta Rosie" song. We couldn't see here completely as we were off to the side, but it looked pretty cool.
Hey Look ! It's MojoMark.com - April 19, 2001
I've finally done it. I have my own domain and server that I have complete control over. No longer am I a slave to my employer begging for space and resources. Here is what happened:
- STEP 1- Building the Beast.
The server is a generic PC that I built myself. I bought the motherboard, processor, chassis, hard drives, NIC card, and video card at Fry's. I bought the memory from Crucial Technologies and then I put it all together. Then I crossed my fingers and turned it on. To my surprise, it all worked ! - STEP 2- Make it Talk
I then loaded WinNT, Oracle, and Oracle Portal. With the software installed, I obtained all the files from the old website on img-oregon.com and loaded it on my server. Again, it worked. - STEP 3- Make it Listen
I then upgraded my internet service, registered the domain and voila! here you are. - STEP 4- Teach Him New Things
The next stage is to begin loading the newest group of pictures, and to start building the modules I wanted to do a long time ago. This includes the link exchange and the joke exchange. Hopefully I will also be able to implement a sort of registration that will notify people via email when changes are made to the site. - STEP 5 - Make Him Conversational
Part of the server building will also include a mail server. I have identified the software I want to use and only need to pay the paltry fee and do the configuration. Then you will be able to send mail to mojomark.com.
