Halloween Night - October 31, 2002

We got about 30-40 Trick-or-Treaters tonight. Marie took most of the duties of passing out the treats (a deadly Tootsie cocktail of Rolls, Pops and Twisties). In following tradition, she did the dress-up, and I did the decor. Her impersonation of a French Flavored Artist with a paint smeared white smock and the famous Jean Pierre style beret with painted on mustache and beard went over well with the visitors. The decor was relatively basic using a vast array of pumpkins and blinking eyeballs adorning the front yard. Inside was a black light that made Marie's shirt glow impressively. Even Garrett put on his "tennis ball" colored PJ's for a cool effect.

In the past we had strived to scare the little people with scary music, masks, makeup and decor. But this year, as Garrett approaches 3 yrs old we worried that we would scare our own little critters more than the visitors, so we opted for a less than impressive display. I hope those who remembered our efforts in the past weren't too disappointed.

It took awhile, but we finally convinced Garrett to put on his (horse) costume and canvas the neighborhood. It was only in the low 40's with a brisk wind so we didn't stay out long. Frankly, he is still pretty unclear of the concept. He was more interested in simply walking around then going up to the house of strangers and begging for candy. We hit about 4 houses before getting back inside where it was warm.

What's the Opposite of Trick or Treating? - October 31, 2002

One of the neighbors came by today to drop off candy for Garrett and Sara. HUH? As the story goes, their two dogs don't handle the little goblins knocking on the door very well and intend to hibernate in the back part of their house with all the lights off to discourage Trick or Treaters.

This would qualify as anti-Trick-or-Treating.

Building the Blog - October 29, 2002

A good part of the day was in building this Blog, and the admin tool behind it.

I still need to build the Category links, and the comments.
