End of an Experiment - June 21, 2005
Back in February of 2003, I bought a car on eBay. Now I'm offering it for sale. It's got a beautiful new $2600 paint job (everything painted but the roof as a result of the vandalism), and it looks really pretty.
FOR SALE: 1999 Volvo S-80 T6, 82,000 miles, black exterior, camel leather interior with an integrated Nokia phone system. Kelly Blue Book tells me this car is worth $12,435 in "good" condition. Because of the new paint, I'm asking $13,000.
It is still a very fast (ummmm Twin Turbos), smooth, comfortable and quiet driver getting 17/24 mpg from the V6. The photo's are still accurate. It's never been wrecked (as far as I know), and it's been serviced regularly by trained volvo specialists.
Smiling in the Rain - June 20, 2005
We've been having some interesting weather the last few days. Dazzlingly beautiful with thunderstorms in the afternoon. On Saturday a storm came through that was really impressive. It started with a barrage of HUGE raindrops - the kind that you can hear hitting your car. Then came a short bout of hail - probably lima bean sized - before really opening up with the rain. Likely the hardest I've ever seen it rain here.
When it was getting started, Garrett put on his rain coat and rain boots and stood out in the rain. Then he got out his bike and rode about the neighborhood, with a a huge smile.
Reverse Survivor - June 19, 2005
For no good reason, I signed up for Season 4 of Reverse Survivor at MisterCrunchy's place. This is a writing contest. Each week the host comes up with an assignment, the players then vote for the "best" and whoever gets the most votes is done. This time the rules were a little different in that you had to accumulate 13 votes to get voted off, before then reverting back to the rule of "most" votes each week gets you off the "island".
Last year I was sixth of the island. This time, I didn't do so well.
I wasn't in to it at all. I regretted entering after three weeks. I just didn't have the time to devote to thinking about good entries. Most of mine were dull, too long, or not funny at all. Some were re-hashes of stuff I've read around the blogosphere, re-cast for the assignment. I didn't do two assignments at all, and the rest were done just hours before they were due. There were several weeks where I felt that mine was definitely the best of the bunch. But I just didn't understand how the other players were voting. Some were so bad I thought, but still got votes. I was clearly part of a different demographic of writers.
It took me 19 weeks to get off the "island" - only 1 other person was deemed worse. When Season 5 is announced, I won't do that again. If I think about it, somebody please smack me.
My entries are on the Writing tab if you want to read the bloody mess.
