NFL Football Pool - Ready to Rock! - August 22, 2005
My NFL Football Pool is now open for registration. I'm hosting it at my RotoMojo site so click on over, register, sign up for the NFL Pro Pick'em Game, and then announce your arrival and superior intelligence on the "Smack Exchange". Anybody can play for the $60 fee (that's $3.52 per week) and the more people who play, the bigger the overall pot will become.
NFL Football Pool - August 17, 2005
Several years ago I got involved in a really unique NFL pool. When the previous commissioner decided against doing it again, I decided to take over and built a web application to get the picks and publish standings. That was three years ago, and I've been running it on this site ever since.
This year I'll be running the pool again, but I'm going to push it off to another server. It will be the same software (with a few tweeks here and there), but a new site. When that site is ready, I'll announce it here and send an email to everybody who has played in the past.
Anybody can play - last year we had 106 players. Entry fees will remain the same, $60 for the entire season (that's only $3.52/week). If you are the high scorer for the week you can win your entry fee back! You can also win by being in the top 20 overall. Last year's 1st place finisher picked up almost $700!, 20th place got their entry fees back. Considering the weekly winners and the overall, 35 of the 106 players gathered up some winnings.
If you want to run a private game, email me at markj at mojomark dot com - I can accomodate that too.
So are you ready to play? Here's how the pool is played....
The Pro-Pick'em Bonus Game allows the player to pick 12 NFL games each week. Each game is ranked from 12 points to 1. IF the team you pick wins the game (no point spread required), you get the number of points specified. In addition, you can specify one of those games to be a "bonus" game. If that team wins, you get double the points.
Sounds simple eh?...
Here's the catch : if the team loses or ties, you get a negative point score equal to how you assigned the points. No big deal you say? Catch #2 - you can only bonus a team that is playing against a team with a .500 or better record. No picking against the Cardinals each week !
