The Right Decision - May 24, 2006
The right decision will sometimes make you feel bad.
Lately, we've been looking for a new home. Our house for the last 10 years is nice, but we need more space.
We thought we had found the perfect place. Lots of space. Nice neighborhood. Space for the train layout inside the house. It was a stretch financially, but one we thought we could do. Yesterday we made the offer.
Today, through a quirk of fate, we found out a registered sex offender lives next door.
Offer withdrawn.
With a hot wife and two toddlers (age 6 and 4), the decision was pretty easy. But I'm still disappointed.

Inspiration - May 02, 2006
Flickr is a web service (recently acquired by Yahoo!) that allows people to post photos and share them with the world. Users can also "tag" those photos so that if you want to see a collection of photos about "sunsets", it's easy to get a good collection.
I'm not a member.. yet. But I do find the site interesting. When I've got nothing to do, I browse Flickr's site under the tag Interestingness for the last 7 days. As I understand it, The photos you see there "are a random selection of some of the interesting things discovered on Flickr within the last 7 days".
I'm facinated by most of the pictures. Some are of current events, some are simply pictures of scenary - but by far the majority of photos are artistic and beautiful.
What is interesting is that I find myself browsing some of the photos imagining what the back story is - or even what it could be.
So, periodically, I am going to try and browse the photos, pick one that sparks my imagination, and write a story on my Writings page. I'll copy the picture, and post it there for reference.
I'll promise nothing as far as frequency, nothing as far as quality, and nothing as far as completeness. It is just simply an exercise in imagination. Some of the stories may be bad, even tasteless. Some may not be even be finished. But like in golf, you can't hole out the shot if you shoot for the green. So I'm going to do it. And just maybe I might put it close to the hole.
