Harassing the Brother - Sara Scores 1 for Little Sisters Everywhere! - June 23, 2003
Sara is quite the opportunist. The other day Sara woke up and came downstairs and found her brother napping on the couch, cheerfully unaware of his current peril. Being a good Dad, I steered missy into the other room and tried to distract her with whatever toy was at my disposal. Like a moth to the flame, she woddled back into the living room and began to climb on to the couch. "No, No, No" I whispered, knowing what a grump the boy is when awoken from a nap and escorted her again to the other room.
After four frontal assaults, she retreated to the aforementioned toy. As I thought she had realized the futility of her efforts, I retreated to the kitchen to clean up a little (this was in fact High School Reunion weekend and the Loving Wife was away for the weekend), Sara mounted a flanking manuever, ascended the treacherous rocking chair and attacked the sleeping boy from the top of the back of the couch with a maniacal, yet delightful squeal.
Cursing silently, I removed the attacker from her dominating position as the boy opened his eyes groggily. Thankfully, he was deep in sleep mode and the attack went largely unnoticed. But I have to think that this was the first of potentially thousands of blatant attempts at "big brother harassments" that will be experienced over the course of our lifetime of parenting. However, regardless of how many "big brother harassments" that will occur, I'm sure that the quantity of "paybacks" will be commensurate.
